SALT LAKE CITY (RNS) Mormon church President Thomas S. Monson, 89, is out of the hospital two days after being admitted, a church spokesman said.
“President Monson was released from the hospital last evening, and plans to resume his normal schedule and duties today,” spokesman Eric Hawkins said Thursday (April 6).
Monson has led the 16 million-member Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 2008 and is regarded by Mormons as a living prophet.
His hospitalization on Monday, a day after the group’s 187th annual General Conference weekend meetings, sparked concern over his health. The Mormon leader looked frail, did not attend all sessions of the event and gave sermons lasting only four minutes.
Internet rumors Wednesday suggested Monson had died, which the church swiftly denied.
Monson’s wife, Frances Monson, died in May 2013 at the age of 85.
