(1956) Three ministers are among these four leaders of the three-month boycott in Montgomery, Ala. protesting segregation on city buses. Twenty-four clergymen will be among those tried on March 19 for allegedly violating the state's anti-boycott law. Left to right are: The Rev. L.R. Bennett; the Rev. H.H. Hubbard; the Rev. Ralph D. Abernathy; and E.D. Nixon, president of the local NAACP. The boycott was launched in December after a black seamstress was fined $14 for refusing to move to the rear of a bus.
