NEWS STORY: Yancey wins top ECPA book award

UNDATED _ Best-selling author Philip Yancey has won the 1998 Charles `Kip’ Jordon Christian Book of the Year Award from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association for”What’s So Amazing About Grace?” The award, renamed from the ECPA Gold Medallion Christian Book of the Year Award to honor the former publisher of Word Publishing who died last year, was presented along with announcements of book winners in 19 categories at a banquet Saturday (July 11) in Dallas.”Kip Jordon was held in high regard by all of us in Christian publishing,”said ECPA President Doug Ross in a statement.”ECPA launched the Christian Book of the Year in 1992 and since that time three of the seven awards were given to … books that Kip Jordon worked on.” Yancey’s book, published by Zondervan Publishing House, marks the second time the author has received ECPA’s top honor. He also received it in 1996 for”The Jesus I Never Knew.” Sam Moore, president and CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishing, was honored with the Gold Medallion Life Achievement Award.

Jim Carlson, founder of Logos Bookstores and Spring Arbor Distributors, was recognized with ECPA’s Chairman’s Award.


Recipients of the 1998 Gold Medallion Book Awards were chosen from 525 book entries by 65 publishers. Close to 200 judges evaluated the entries for literary quality, design, content and significance in the marketplace.
