Center for Choice, the Uptown Toledo facility where 50,000 abortions were performed between 1983 and 2013, was purchased last week (Oct. 7) by Agora, a Christian prayer organization that is working with a group of local pro-life organizations, said Ed Sitter, executive director of Foundation for Life and Greater Toledo Right to Life.

The new owners bought the center at a real estate auction for $61,000 and plan to demolish the building and turn the grounds into a green space with benches and possibly a waterfall or fountain, according to Sitter.

Carol Dunn, the founder of Center for Choice, said razing the building would be “a wasteful use of money.”

“They have no taste,” said Dunn. “It’s a lovely building. The floors in there are terrazzo. And outside, when it was cared for, it was a good-looking building.”

Center for Choice had been the site of numerous protests during the 1980s and ongoing prayer vigils through the decades. A bomb damaged the building in 1986; more than 50 protesters were arrested after forming a blockade outside the clinic’s doors in 1989.

Center for Choice closed last year after it failed to acquire a written transfer agreement with a local full-service hospital as required by Ohio law.

The lone abortion clinic operating in Toledo today may face the same fate. The Capital Care Network has been seeking an administrative variance from the state that would allow it to remain open without a hospital transfer pact.

“I’m terribly disappointed with the women of northwest Ohio who haven’t had the courage to stand up and speak on the issue,” said Dunn. “They are quiet as mice.”

  • “Center for Choice closed last year after it failed to acquire a written transfer agreement with a local full-service hospital as required by Ohio law.”

Which was due to recent onerous laws designed to restrict access to abortion through collateral attacks on the clinic licensing.

Legally the politicians behind them could not say they were intending to restrict access to abortion clinics. So they lie and say it is in the interest of public safety and clinic regulation. But of course the precise reason for the laws was to create a de facto abortion ban.

  • Onward christian solders!

Most Americans recoil at the horrors committed by ISIS, and reject every aspect of their beliefs and actions altogether. This group of Islamic religious zealots attempt to control every aspect of the lives of the people around them, or if they can’t they just murder them. All of this is done because they base their beliefs on their interpretation of a faith based religion; and they want to spread that control all over the world.

I wonder if the tactics they use are any less moral than the results they wish to achieve? Is killing someone less moral than controlling them against their will? Is it any less moral for the Christian religious zealots in America to attempt to achieve the same control objectives just because their tactics are not nearly as brutal?

  • “They are quiet as mice.”

Because they are terrified of the religious – and of religion itself.
Christian Sharia Law is on its way. And if women people don’t stand up for their Constitutional Rights by objecting vocally to this Christian Taliban, we are going to be over run.

These pushy Christians want to outlaw contraception while they are at it!
One of the most effective ways to lessen the number of abortions to begin with!

Once your rights are gone you are not going to get them back, people.

  • So you admit the Ohio lawmakers were lying sacks of crap when they said these laws were meant to improve safety at the clinics.

You also admit that lying to the public is OK if done for the Lord. Your concern for life ends when one is born. After that, they are just cesspools of sin deserving of God’s punishment.

Christian morality = none at all.

  • Frank America is no longrr in favor of abortion so we may soon be able to do as you say pass more and more laws that would protect little children ..

I would also like to see on the federal tax form a spot to make a donation to
build a holocaust museum the largest one ever in Washington DC so that not only YOUNG CHILD BEARING AGE women can see it but young men also what these little tots went through in torture known as abortion ..

  • If you want to see what happens when you keep poor people from access to contraception and abortion, just go to your local welfare office.

  • Not sure if its fair to equate the people who want to plant a memorial garden with the monsters who saw off heads, rape little girls, practice FGM, stone rape victims…

Also, I should correct your birth control claim. Christians dont want to outlaw birth control. In fact, many Christians including myself use birth control. We just don’t want those who object to be forced to pay for other peoples birth control. You should be more fair and truthful with the claims you make.
