Christians for Fair Witness on the Middle East Statement on the Recent Israeli Elections

NEW YORK – Christians for Fair Witness on the Middle East is deeply concerned about the conduct engaged in, and statements made, by certain Israeli politicians during the course of the recent elections.

Israeli concerns about security are real. But we believe that inciting against Arab Israeli citizens voting and denouncing the possibility of the creation of a sovereign Palestinian State are reprehensible actions which deny basic human rights and threaten security, rather than ensure it.

We continue to lament the absence of any real leadership on either side of this conflict. Instead of engaging in inciteful rhetoric, taking unhelpful unilateral steps, and refusing serious negotiations, we implore both Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Abbas to begin the hard work of preparing their people for the compromises necessary for a lasting full status agreement and the possibility of true peace.

We are confident that there are people of good will on both sides who wish to see a negotiated solution. And we look to the international community to demand that both parties stop engaging in unhelpful behavior and return in good faith to the negotiating table.
