WASHINGTON — Biblical Archaeology Review will hold a press conference at 10 AM EDT on Tuesday, August 11, to announce a shocking but valid interpretation concerning the creation of the first woman—from Adam’s os baculum.
According to the Bible’s creation account, after making the heavens and the earth, God created humankind. The Book of Genesis states God formed Adam out of the dust of the ground, and then Eve was created from one of Adam’s ribs—but was it his rib?
Ziony Zevit, Distinguished Professor of Biblical Literature and Northwest Semitic Languages at American Jewish University in Bel-Air, California, believes the traditional translation of the Biblical text is wrong. A more careful translation of the Hebrew word for “rib” in the Book of Genesis suggests Eve was actually created from another, very different, part of Adam’s anatomy—his os baculum (penis bone). Man no longer has one, but many mammals do.
Zevit will share this interpretation of the Genesis Creation account with the press on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at 10 AM, in the Zenger Room of the National Press Club, 529 14th St. NW, Washington, DC 20045.
Mary Joan Leith, Chair of the Department of Religious Studies at Stonehill College, and Dan Ben-Amos, Professor of Folklore and Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, will also be present to explain and answer queries.
