Tricycle Magazine kicks off 25th anniversary celebration with Lex Hixon book launch event
NEW YORK – To kick off its 25th anniversary, Tricycle: The Buddhist Review, the first independent magazine dedicated to Western Buddhism, will be presenting a unique event with Sheila Hixon on Tuesday, October 25th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Greene Space in Manhattan’s SoHo district to celebrate the release of Conversations in the Spirit, a collection of Lex Hixon’s WBAI “In the Spirit’” interviews, published by Monkfish Book Publishing Company.
The evening will be hosted by former New York Times religion editor Gustav Niebuhr and Tricycle founder and board member Helen Tworkov.”We’re thrilled to be presenting this very special event honoring Lex Hixon’s enormous contribution to interfaith dialogue,” said Tricycle editor and publisher James Shaheen. “At a time when faith and religion have taken center stage in our political and civil discourse, Tricycle‘s 25th anniversary is an apt time to be celebrating his work, which has been so influential on our own.”
Lex Hixon was an accomplished spiritual practitioner, scholar, author, and longtime Tricycle contributor who explored the great religious traditions extensively. He published nine books and spent 0ver them years hosting the radio program “In the Spirit” on WBAI, where he interviewed the day’s leading spiritual lights. Thirty-three of those interviews, carefully edited, appear for the first time in print in Conversations in the Spirit. Interviewees include the spiritual giants Ram Dass, Alan Watts, Daniel Berrigan, Swami Muktananda, Kalu Rinpoche, Mother Teresa, and Stephen Gaskin.
