Fred and Joyce Claar, will be discussing their new book, “Values & Ethics – Through a Jewish Lens,” at Temple Israel, 140 Central Avenue, Lawrence, N.Y., at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2016. “Values & Ethics – Through a Jewish Lens,” empowers parents to bring relevant moral values of Judaism into family discussions. Topics are indexed by themes such as anger, attitude, gratitude, humility and jealousy. Weekly Torah readings and holidays are also indexed with three relevant approaches to each Torah portion. What makes this book unique is that each self-contained approach is approximately 300 words, never more than one page.

Fred Claar is currently a board member of the Jewish Education Project, My Jewish Learning and Jewish Sudent Connection. Fred teaches Jewish issues and texts to high schoolers and frequently teaches school groups from seventh grade through college about the Holocaust at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in N.Y. City. Joyce Claar is a retired special education teacher. She is Secretary of the Westchester Jewish Council and former Chair of Westchester Adult Jewish Education.

The lecture is open to the public. Cost: temple Israel of Lawrence members – $18.00; non-members – $20.00. Kosher lunch is included. Space is limited, please register by October 7.

But, of course, producing this journalism carries a high cost, to support the reporters, editors, columnists, and the behind-the-scenes staff that keep this site up and running. That's why we ask that if you can, you consider becoming one of our donors. Any amount helps, and because we're a nonprofit, all of it goes to support our mission: To produce thoughtful, factual coverage of religion that helps you better understand the world.
