Mercy Chefs – In this season of giving, Kim Lawton reports on the Christian nonprofit Mercy Chefs. During natural disasters and national emergencies, Mercy Chefs deploys mobile kitchens and teams of volunteer chefs to cook restaurant-quality meals for victims and first responders. The group says it tries to spread hope through good meals. The chefs say it’s gratifying to use their skills to help others.

The Threshold Choir – The practice began in California and has spread to 130 communities around the world.  Its mission is to bring gentle a capella singing to people who are dying in hospitals and hospices, usually with three or four voices at a time. With the necessary permissions, we accompanied the Washington, D.C Threshold group as it comforted a patient during the last stages of his life.

“Publicizing the Miracle” of Hanukkah – Jews will soon be celebrating Hanukkah, the eight-day festival of lights. Passages in the Talmud direct Jews to “publicize the miracle” of Hanukkah. We visited San Antonio, Texas, where the Jewish community holds an annual “Hanukkah on the River” celebration. Rabbi Chaim Block, executive director of the Chabad Center for Jewish Life & Learning, explained how they are fulfilling the requirement to publicize the miracle with boat parades, children’s hands-on workshops and menorah lighting. Originally broadcast December 11, 2015.
