Seasoned social justice leader Caitlin Breedlove joins Auburn Seminary

NEW YORK — Today Auburn Seminary announced the hiring of longtime LGBTQ activist Caitlin Breedlove as its new Vice President of Movement Leadership. Breedlove will build and maintain relationships with grassroots leaders, support the campaigns of the Auburn Senior Fellows, and develop Auburn’s overall movement strategy.

Prior to joining Auburn, Caitlin led Southerners of New Ground (SONG) for nearly a decade from a $25,000 budget to becoming a $1 million organizing powerhouse for LGBTQ liberation in the South.

“The moment we find ourselves in brings critical and urgent opportunities to strengthen leaders, networks and campaigns originating from our deepest held spiritual beliefs and our hopes for the future,” said Breedlove. “I am excited, in particular, to help Auburn continue to expand its support and expertise to leaders in red states, grassroots organizers under 40, and those of faith and moral courage who might share our spiritual imperatives in this time, but not reside in formal religious communities.”

Breedlove comes to Auburn most recently from having led the faith-rooted organizing work for the Unitarian Universalist denomination, where she also hosted Fortification, a podcast that explores the spiritual lives of social movement leaders. She is deeply respected among hundreds of grassroots faith-rooted organizers across the U.S. for her work at the intersections of movements, her leadership development skills, and her expertise in red states.
