WASHINGTON — Catholic Mobilizing Network will host a national press call on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 9:00am EST to launch a new initiative, The National Catholic Pledge to End the Death Penalty. Featuring Bishop Frank J Dewane of the United States Conference Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development, this press call will also include the perspective of a victim’s family member as well as a death penalty expert providing historical information and statistic related to capital punishment in the United States. Growing public opposition to the death penalty and in the aftermath of last month’s tragic executions in Arkansas, Catholic Mobilizing Network has launched this pledge to amplify the Catholic Church’s work to end the death penalty. As a continuation of the  US Catholic bishops’ Catholic Campaign to End the Use of the Death Penalty, this Pledge responds to the call of Pope Francis and asks all people of good will to educate, advocate, and pray for an end to the death penalty.
