VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis has prayed for victims of California’s wildfires and freezing weather on the U.S. East Coast.

Addressing tens of thousands of faithful Sunday (Nov. 18) in St. Peter’s Square, including pilgrims from New York and New Jersey, Francis prayed that “the Lord welcome the deceased into his peace, comfort family members and sustain all those involved in rescue efforts.”

Francis said he wanted to offer a “special prayer to all those stricken by the fires that are scourging California, and now also for the victims of the freeze of the East Coast of the United States.”

At least 76 people perished and hundreds are unaccounted for in the California wildfires. In the eastern U.S., an unusually early winter snowstorm last week was blamed for at least seven deaths.

  • Pope Francis is badly hobbled by his needless surrendering to Universalism and Gay Marriage. But score Francis a clear touchdown for openly practicing “thoughts and prayers”, instead of denigrating them like some libbies do.

  • Thoughts and prayers are acceptable when they come from people who can’t do more like for examples congressmen.

  • Hmmmm.

What do you suggest was more appropriate, mailing a fire extinguisher from Italy to California?

  • The holy father should pray for the state of California to have better land management policies.
Maybe spend a hundred million cleaning up the undergrowth and thinning things out a bit.
Could put a few of the illegal voters to work too…

  • I was listening to a piece earlier this week on National Public Radio. The talking head said he was going to interview a California tree botanist and forest management expert and that the expert would explain how it was not all California’s problem.

And then she slowly explained how it was California’s problem.

Despite a long drought and previous fires in the same areas that burned this time, they never cleared the brush, cut barriers, developed rapid evacuation plans, and on, and on, and on.

Paradise, for example, had experienced two devastating fires in 2008. This cleared the area north and southwest of the town.

So this time the fire came from the east, which had ten more years to provide fuel, and took out the town.

  • My parents own about 20 acres of land that was inherited from my moms family who had it for I don’t know how long.
I’ve been going there for 40+ years.
The bottom line is that it is overgrown and has dead shit everywhere.
About 5 years ago, a guy stopped by and asks my dad if they can harvest the hard wood. He would give him $15 k. My dad sees dollar signs and says sure. The guy says as long as he’s “in there” with the crew and trucks, he’d haul out the cuttings and some shit trees that he could sell for firewood. However, that would cost my dad $7k.
My dad said no thanks and now the place looks like a bomb went off. The trees are thinner but you can’t ealk without tripping over something. Even the elk trip at night.
Anyway, a long winded story that shows that both government and homeowners have to maintain the forests they “own”.

  • The pope has become basically the Queen of the Church, ribbon cutter, chief prayer (while cameras are rolling).

  • ….“special prayer to all those stricken by the fires that are scourging California, and now also for the victims of the freeze of the east coast
of the United States.” (what freeze ?)

    What Crap !

Phony attempt to divert attention from priests raping children in US & spreading investigations of RCC by state AG’s offices.

Next thing you know he’ll be naming a new US saint as a diversion.

Oh – that’s in the works already ?

  • ” Pope Francis offered several hundred poor people, homeless, migrants and unemployed a lunch on Sunday as he celebrates the World Day of the Poor with a concrete gesture of charity….”

    What Crap !

” Both books reveal, for example, that most of the charitable contributions (known as “Peter’s Pence”) made to the Pope are used to pay the cost of maintaining the Roman curia; millions are wasted each year on the princely lifestyle of the cardinals and the below-market or rent-free arrangements of the thousands of apartments owned by the Holy See in and around Rome. ”
