Article leads family to find Chinese Catholic sisters who rescued
and raised their adopted daughter
Global Sisters Report, a website project of National Catholic Reporter that focuses on Catholic women religious, published an article December 24 showcasing the joyful story of the Worley family’s adoption.
The Worley family of Chattanooga, Tennessee adopted Teagan, 6, from China in March 2018. It began with Robin Worley stumbling upon a Facebook post about a Chinese orphan with achondroplasia. Robin has achondroplasia, as do all three of her children. Achondroplasia is the most common form of dwarfism that affects the long bones in the body. After seeing the accompanying video on the Facebook post, the Worleys knew Teagan belonged with them.
In August 2017, Global Sisters Report published a story about the St. Therese of the Child Jesus Sisters, who run a collection of homes and rehabilitation services for severely disabled children called the Liming Family. Desperate to learn more about Teagan’s early years, the Worleys stumbled across this article – and found some of the answers they were looking for.
Robin contacted the author of the story, Melanie Lidman of Global Sisters Report, who reached out to the orphanage’s congregation’s former mother superior. As chance – or Divine Providence – would have it, Teagan was from Liming Family, a network of orphanages and rehabilitation resources for children with disabilities run by the St. Therese sisters. The sisters had raised her after she had been abandoned, and the sisters had photos and stories of her babyhood.
