PORTLAND, Ore. (OCP) — Catholic musicians Jaime Cortez, Curtis Stephan and Tom Kendzia will lead a free concert Friday, Oct. 21, and a daylong music ministry conference on Saturday, Oct. 22, at University of Portland.
Sponsored by OCP and the University of Portland, the Glory & Praise to Our God concert and Sing Praise to God conference will both be held at Christ the Teacher Chapel.
Admission is free to Friday’s concert, which runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Pastoral musicians and non-musicians alike will enjoy celebrating the music of our past, present and future.
“The concert will truly have all hearts giving glory and praise to God,” said Maureen Briare, Associate Director for Liturgical Music at University of Portland.
Saturday’s conference offers music directors, choir members and pastoral musicians a day of music, renewal and inspiration. Combining the best elements of retreats, teaching and reading sessions, the conference includes keynote presentations, prayer and an introduction to the new Order of Celebration of Matrimony by Paul Covino.
“So often budgets and schedules preclude us from traveling to conferences. It is our hope that by bringing a conference to Portland for one action-packed day, pastoral musicians will encounter the power and grace that flows when gathering with other pastoral musicians,” said Laure Krupp, OCP’s general manager of Outreach & Partnerships.
Cost for the conference is $25 per person, or $200 (cap) per parish. Space is limited, so registration is required. Sing Praise to God will be available in other cities in coming months.
“To spend a renewing day among fellow music ministers in song and prayer, exploring new music, and hearing from the experts, is truly life-giving for building community, nurturing your own vocation as a pastoral musician, and feeling recharged and inspired to continue to praise God with beautiful music,” Briare said.
