You know what’s awesome? When the Catholic archbishop of your city compares it to a war zone, only worse.

In a Q& A about violence in Baltimore Archbishop Edwin O’Brien of Baltimore told the Catholic Review this week that: “It’s safer in Iraq and Afghanistan, I think, sometimes” than Baltimore.

Hey it’s not like O’Brien has actually been to war, right? Actually, he has. He was Archbishop of Military Services from 1997-2007. Before that, O’Brien was a chaplain with the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vietnam.

O’Brien says the drug trade lies at the heart of the problem.

“The industry of the city is drugs, it seems. It’s a vicious circle and we have to see how other communities have found a way to break that vicious circle because it’s destructive. I don’t think we’ve been very successful so far,” he said.

Sounds like we need McNulty and Bunk back on the case.
