I wanted to alert you to two different speaking engagements happening in Cincinnati later this month. Both of these events are free and open to the public. (Cincy is becoming quite the destination for Emergent-church types. We’ve also got Debbie Blue coming in January, taking our coolness factor to a whole new level.)

On September 20-21, a week from now, Brian McLaren will be speaking at the Power of One summit. Here’s a summary:

Brian is a prominent Christian pastor, author, activist and speaker and leading figure in the emerging church movement. He is also associated with postmodern Christianity and progressive Christianity and is a major figure in post-evangelical thought. Brian has often been named one of the most influential Christian leaders in America and was recognized by Time Magazine as one of the 25 Most Influential Evangelicals in America in 2005. With more than 20 books to his credit…the brother has got it going on! (Smile)

Do YOU want to learn how to unleash your God-given gifts? Are you ready for you ministry or business to go to the next level? Are you ready to learn practical steps to achieve your God-given purpose? Join myself & Brian THIS September 20-21 in Cincinnati, Ohio for 2 POWER-PACKED DAYS entitled “The Power Of One” sponsored by The Global Village.

The summit is free but the organizers do want you to register in advance for a spot.

The best things in life are free, including Mark Scandrette's event in Cincinnati where he'll discuss his new book on spending our money and time on the things that matter most.

The best things in life are free, including Mark Scandrette’s event in Cincinnati where he’ll discuss his new book on spending our money and time on the things that matter most.

Then on Monday, September 23, the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer is hosting Mark Scandrette, author of the new book Free: Spending Your Time and Money on What Matters Most. (This event is also free, because it would be pretty ironic if it weren’t.)  Troy Bronsink and Brianna Kelly will provide some music. It’s from 7 p.m. to 8:30 and you don’t have to register in advance; just show up.

Here is a description of the new book:

Why does chasing the good life make us feel so bad? We dream big and spend our money and time chasing our dreams—only to find ourselves exhausted, deeply in debt and spiritually empty. Mark and Lisa Scandrette realized at the beginning of their lives together that what they want, what they need and what they were being told to want didn’t sync up. In Free Mark (with a little help from Lisa) shares the secrets of how they bought a home and raised a family debt-free in the most expensive city in the United States—and how they’ve enjoyed good relationships, good adventures and good food along the way. Packed with helpful exercises for getting a handle on your money story, and designed for healing and generative money conversations with friends, Free gives you a path to financial freedom and spiritual flourishing that awakens your heart and energizes your soul.

Hope to see you at one or both of these events.
