Why do I feel another wave of post-mortem conversions to the LDS is coming in the near future?

  • CJ

Your comment demonstrates your ignorance on posthumous baptisms in the LDS Church. 1 Cor. 15:29.

They are not “conversions”, they are ordinances done on an ancestors behalf and according to LDS Doctrine, they can either accept or reject said ordinances in the afterlife.

To dispel another myth, these people are also not then counted as “Mormons” i.e. members of the Mormon (LDS) Church.”

Of course, if one thinks it’s a false doctrine and all hooey anyway, then what difference does it make?

  • TaTa

Correction about above…that should read “spirit” bride” nonsense.

Posthumous baptism is a fairly obnoxious practice. Its an attempt by Mormons to essentially appropriate dead gentiles as their own. It dishonors whatever faith they had in life.

“Of course, if one thinks it’s a false doctrine and all hooey anyway, then what difference does it make?”

Because it shows a level of callousness and lack of respect for faiths besides your own. Good intentions do not absolve offensive and insulting actions.

“they can either accept or reject said ordinances in the afterlife. ”

When the dead can respond back to those baptizing them post-mortem and voice their approval or displeasure you can claim such a point.

    Dear TaTa,
Please, just because you say or write something, guess what, that does not make it true or verified. Please be more explicit. What lies did Joseph Smith tell? What prediction that he gave us have not pan out? Would you for instance supply the Bible verses that say there will be no sex in heaven? And would please provide the verses that teach of the Trinity? Ta Ta if you accept the Nicene Creed you are at one moment or at the same time a polytheist and a monotheist. That is the NC states there is not one God but three Gods, and contrarily there is not three Gods but one God. I think I have that right. To me that is a whole lot of schizophrenic babble. And you are an idolater; and you had better buy some fire insurance. I think you are defending Christianity as you see it but you are not. I think you are a person of faith but in many ways your faith is misplaced. If you would like to know more about Mormonism go to mormon.com; Don’t be negative but seek with faith

Jesus performed his atonement even before we were born, do you find that obnoxious?

  • larry

How is that similar or even related? The polite answer to that is, “your mileage may vary.”

In vivos baptism at least has an element of consent. Being a willing volunteer or being raised into a faith. You are avoiding the concern here. Of unduly appropriating dead gentiles for your religion. There are far less potentially offensive ways to honor the dead unbelievers.

    Get over it.

because for you to say the whole world came into existence by just random chance is being blind and it takes more faith to believe the earth formed from
nothin then became everything where the sun is set perfect so we don’t burn
or freeze. Bible prophecy coming true like Psalm 22:16-18 and Isaiah 53:3-7
show us that the Bible is the Word of God. God/Jesus is/are real. God bless.
