Drugs of Last Resort – In order for a drug to be on the market, it has to be tested through a clinical trial to make sure it is safe and effective. But as Betty Rollin reports, many patients do not qualify for clinical trials. Parents of critically ill children desperately seek experimental drugs through the FDA and pharmaceutical companies and there are ethical issues surrounding who gets the drugs and who doesn’t. Jason Fowler, father of 7 year old Jack, says “Is there risk involved? Definitely, but…the other option is watching our son deteriorate and die and we’re not going to stand by and do that.”
The Amanda Lindhout Story – In 2008, Canadian journalist Amanda Lindhout was kidnapped by Somali rebels and spent 15 months in captivity. She says, “The things that happened to me, no human being on the planet should have to go through.” Now the author of a best-selling memoir, Lindhout speaks with Bob Faw about her ordeal and the power of forgiveness.
