Holy pepperoni!

A Domino’s driver was left in tears when an Ohio church congregation tipped her more than $1,000 after she delivered a $5.99 pizza, according to local media.

The sobbing started after the driver, who identified herself as Natasha in a video of the Oct. 4 surprise, brought the pie to the Sycamore Creek Church in Pickerington, a suburb southeast of Columbus, and was asked by the Rev. Steve Markle to go to the front of the sanctuary, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

Markle asked her the biggest tip she’d ever received, and she said it had been about $10. He gave her $15 but then told her: “We’ve been teaching our church this last month about being generous, and so we did something special for you today. We took up a special offering for a tip for you.”

It turned out that church members had collected $1,046 to present to the driver.

According to the paper, the congregation was wrapping up a sermon series on “I was Broke. Now I’m Not” and has a monthly missions emphasis on “Random Acts of Kindness.”

As Markle pulled out the thick stack of bills, the driver gasped, covered her mouth and broke into tears, the video shows. She embraced him and said, “Thank you so much.”

“I hope that this can help you,” Markle said. “I don’t know what’s going on in your life.”

“It can help a lot,” she replied. “Thank you so much. Thank you, everybody.”

Sounds like you’ve got it all figured out.

But when’s the last time YOU gave a $1000 tip to a low-income pizza driver?

    Hmm?

  • Doc Anthony

Sounds good, but no pizza drivers there.

So let’s let Sycamore Creek Church do their thing without a lotta complaining. Besides, you don’t see the pizza lady getting all angry about it, do you?

Pizza drivers have a job. They have a car. Churches need publicity and need to keep the donations coming. This is merely advertising costs for them.

  • Doc,

To blatantly use a poor person’s predicament so despicably – then to shrug it off when the poor person has no choice but to be grateful – is terrible.

If the church had given the money anonymously I would have no problem. But the whole point of this exercise is to PROMOTE THE CHURCH and to buy the poor person’s participation.

Perhaps if the poor woman knew how many millions of dollars were going to come into the church as a result of her being so manipulated by this cynical stunt, she would have demanded a fairer share of the proceeds!

She is being used – as all poor people are – to grift the system. Too bad she is so poor (and will remain poor) as a result of this stunt.
Makes lots of money for the church though !!!!
A cruel marketing stunt. That’s all it is.

So let me get this right Max, you choose who you want to help and then blast the church for doing the same? you my friend are a joke. Why don’t you go fly a kite instead of wasting time on here with your flim flam lol.

  • @Steve,

My morality doesn’t include using people for ulterior motives.

A church donating money to a poor person is like a tobacco company handing out candy wrapped in cigarettes.
I suppose you approve of that sort of thing.

“execute them in front of me” – JESUS (Luke 19:27)
What a destructive concept for the poor – or anyone else for that matter.

  • You know what,Max? It just dawned on me? You,my friend, are simply a disgruntled whiner.I’ve known someone who ragged on the church so much without rhyme or reason.Contrary to YOUR belief,Max,the church doesn’t exist to please you or to fit into the box you’ve constructed for it in your own mind. And your constant harping on this verse taken WAAY out of context got old a LOOONG time ago. You’re becoming a one-trick pony,Max.Expand and move on.

  • @Ringo,

    “You,my friend,are simply a disgruntled whiner….”

Someday…Ringo…. when you find yourself shocked at the absence of any of these gods (Yahweh, Satan, Jesus, Gabriel, Holy Spirit) you will ask yourself a question: “How did I ever let the Church lie to me for so long?”

JESUS – I SHALL BURN THE WORLD AS SOON AS I CAN

“I have come to bring FIRE…What constraints I am forced to endure! I am impatient to bring….DIVISION.” – JESUS (Luke 12:49-51)

    Ringo….this. cannot. be. real.
