Pastor of Willow Creek’s city campus resigns

The pastor of the Chicago congregation of Willow Creek Community Church has resigned, admitting to “sexual impurity,” the Chicago Tribune reports.

The resignation of the Rev. Steve Wu, who was chosen to lead the city branch of the well-known megachurch in 2006, was announced Jan. 25. Elder Greg Haecker read a brief statement saying it was effective immediately.

“He admitted to sexual impurity and has taken full responsibility for his sin. He has expressed a desire to participate in a restoration process,” the statement said.

The megachurch led by the Rev. Bill Hybels is based in South Barrington, Ill., and its location at Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre is one of its six campuses.
