Sweet Sistine Update: Round of Elite Eight Eminences

As Catholic cardinals flock to Rome to pick the next pope, our Sweet Sistine bracket is heating up, with just Eight Elite Eminences left.

In the first round, Cardinal Peter Turkson had the narrowest margin of victory (12%) and Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi had the widest (a whopping 50%). The margins are much tighter in round two, so make sure you vote.

A special thanks to the nearly 20,000 people who’ve voted thus far. Because the conclave will begin soon, this round is shorter. Voting will close March 6 at 9 p.m. eastern time, so get your votes in soon!

And while you’re here, check out our stories about Pope Benedict XVI’s unfinished business, the colorful history of papal conclaves and what American Catholics want in a new pope.

No paywalls here. Thanks to you.
As an independent nonprofit, RNS believes everyone should have access to coverage of religion that is fair, thoughtful and inclusive. That's why you will never hit a paywall on our site; you can read all the stories and columns you want, free of charge (and we hope you read a lot of them!)

But, of course, producing this journalism carries a high cost, to support the reporters, editors, columnists, and the behind-the-scenes staff that keep this site up and running. That's why we ask that if you can, you consider becoming one of our donors. Any amount helps, and because we're a nonprofit, all of it goes to support our mission: To produce thoughtful, factual coverage of religion that helps you better understand the world. Thank you for reading and supporting RNS.
