(RNS) Some of you may have caught wind of the gathering of Richard B. Spencer’s neo-Nazi National Policy Institute in Washington last Saturday. They conferred at the Ronald Reagan Building and dined at Maggiano’s Little Italy.

Plans were discussed for making America a white ethno-state. Nazi salutes were given. Jews were attacked. They partied like it was 1933.


On Monday, Maggiano’s apologized for hosting the dinner and said it would donate the $10,000 proceeds to the ADL. Same day, Trump transition team spokesman Bryan Lanza criticized the critics.

President-elect Trump has continued to denounce racism of any kind and he [was] elected because he will be a leader for every American To think otherwise is a complete misrepresentation of the movement that united Americans from all backgrounds.

Yesterday, at a meeting with New York Times editors, Trump himself said in response to a question, “I don’t want to energize the group, and I disavow the group.

I’m afraid that won’t cut it. If the Big Dog really wanted to denounce and disavow, here’s what he would have done.
