August 2020: CURE International was awarded $2.79 million in grants by USAID/ASHA to make improvements to CURE’s charitable children’s hospitals in Kenya, Niger, and Zambia. These projects are made possible by the generous support of the American people and will include:

  • Solar Energy System and Sustainability Project at the CURE Kenya hospital
  • Solar Energy System and Sustainability Project at the CURE Zambia hospital
  • Capacity Expansion and Infrastructure Investment at the CURE Niger hospital

The Solar Energy System and Sustainability Projects at CURE Kenya and CURE Zambia will provide innovative solar energy solutions and electrical upgrades to enhance the hospitals’ energy independence and create significant cost savings that will be reinvested into the hospitals’ charitable work. Through these projects, the ties between the United States and the countries of Kenya and Zambia will be strengthened and champion the ideals of sustainable energy and innovative technology in these countries.

The Capacity Expansion and Infrastructure Investment project at CURE Niger will allow the expansion of the hospital’s operating rooms, children’s ward, medical equipment, and improve its current solar energy system. These upgrades will allow the hospital to continue to provide excellent care for children with treatable disabilities and further strengthen the United States’ relationship with Niger.

These four-year construction projects will officially begin in October 2020 and will help support the growth and sustainability of these charitable children’s hospitals in Kenya, Zambia, and Niger.
