Sunday Assembly (SA) is a global network of secular communities that celebrates life under the motto “Live Better, Help Often, Wonder More.” It has a tradition of celebrating the winter holiday season with a big sing-along party (frequently featuring confetti cannons).

It was begun by two British comedians, Sanderson Jones and Pippa Evans, who were on the way to a gig when they discovered they both wanted to do something that was like church but totally secular and inclusive of all. Their first Assembly took place on January 6, 2013 and it grew from there.

“This year, the pandemic has made it impossible for our beautiful communities to gather in person. So, for the first time ever, we will all come together at the same time around the world for one massive online event, from 9pm in Amsterdam to noon in California to 9am the next day in New Zealand!” says Ross Llewallyn, from SA Atlanta.

“Yule Rock has been a tradition in many Assemblies around the world for several years and serves as a source of joy and togetherness. Holidays can typically be challenging for secular folk and this year is proving to be especially challenging for so many. So instead of several individual events around the world, this is the first year that Assemblies from all over the globe will contribute to a digital experience for the ages,” says Yule Co-host Adam Newton, SA Nashville.

The Assemblies encourage all who are interested to join them online for their world-wide Yule Lockdown Rockdown! There will be singing, there will be talks, and there will be sharing of good tidings with their global community as we bring 2020 to a close. They welcome Assemblers old and new to come together to celebrate this holiday season.

“People from any tradition can enjoy this fun virtual event,” says SA San Diego Executive Director, Alexis Record. She knows whereof she speaks. She’s an atheist and her husband is a Christian and they both enjoy their local Assembly. “Festive outfits are encouraged,” continues Record, “and I’ll be wearing my most ridiculously fabulous attire.

Sunday Assembly co-founder, comedian Sanderson Jones and SA Nashville organizer Adam Newton will Co-Emcee the event as SA chapters from around the world contribute holiday songs, readings, and performances.
