in getting independence from the Latin Catholics,” says Yakov Krotov, a Moscow-based Ukranian
Catholic historian and religious commentator for Radio Liberty, the U.S. government-funded radio
station that broadcasts in Russian. The Ukrainian Catholic University, based in the western
